Can Android Run JAR Files?
Android cannot normally run desktop Java JAR files directly. Jre4Android provides a Java runtime environment on Android, so you can launch compatible JAR files from your phone.
Steps to Run a JAR File
- Install Jre4Android from Google Play.
- Open Jre4Android.
- Tap Open JAR File.
- Select the
.jarfile from your device. - Tap Run.
- View the output in terminal mode or in a GUI window if it is a Swing app.
What Kind of JAR Files Can I Run?
- Simple command-line Java tools
- Java learning examples
- Many Java Swing GUI applications
- Some server-style Java applications, depending on requirements
Common Error: No Main-Class
Some JAR files do not include a Main-Class entry in META-INF/MANIFEST.MF. Without this entry, the runtime may not know which class to launch.
You can use Jar File Opener to inspect the manifest and check whether the JAR contains a valid Main-Class.
Tips
- Check the required Java version before running a JAR.
- Use the Pro version if you need custom command-line arguments.
- Some desktop Java apps may require libraries or APIs that are not available on Android.
